Sclerotherapy
"Sclerotherapy" has been considered an important method for treating vein diseases for years. The solution (in Austria, only Polidocanol is approved) is first foamed and then directly applied to the affected vein. This leads to the closure of the vein, effectively deactivating the leaking vein. Additionally, sclerotherapy can also lead to permanent removal of the treated vein.
The main advantage of the method is the low time and financial expenditure with satisfactory treatment outcomes. In some specialized areas (e.g., spider veins or venous ulcers), sclerotherapy is even the preferred and primary method. This method can also be easily combined with other procedures, such as endovenous laser therapy, in the same treatment session.
