Thrombophlebitis
("Superficial Vein Thrombosis")

Thrombophlebitis refers to the formation of a blood clot in a superficial vein, typically accompanied by significant inflammation of the vein wall ("phlebitis"). Depending on its location and extent, anticoagulant therapy is often recommended.

A primary cause of superficial vein thrombosis is varicose veins. While severe complications like pulmonary embolism are less common compared to deep vein thrombosis, the thrombosis can extend into the deep venous system. Therefore, thorough evaluation and treatment are essential.

If vein inflammations occur frequently, it’s important to investigate and rule out any underlying conditions.
